Westview Drive Rain Garden, Delta

The Corporation of Delta designed a rain garden in the 7200-block of Westview Drive where stormwater rushes off the roadway and enters Cougar Creek. The force of the water during heavy rains was such that is was eroding the embankment at the edge of the road and adding silt and other contaminants to the salmon-bearing creek.

Ecomedia was specified as an infiltration media to act as absorbent growing media to soak up water and remove suspended solids and to treat the pollutants such as hydrocarbons and dissolved metals from the paved surface.

The planting in the rain garden was done by Cougar Creek Streamkeepers, a group of volunteers dedicated to restoring and maintaining the health of Cougar Creek.
